Waccamaw Library to host third annual Making and Crafting Faire
PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. — The Waccamaw Neck Branch Library invites the community to celebrate creativity and craftsmanship at its third annual Making and Crafting Faire, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Waccamaw Library, this two-day event is designed to showcase both the library’s growing collection of maker tools and the talents of local artisans. The faire will feature demonstrations, exhibits and vendor booths highlighting everything from woodworking and photography to 3D-printed creations and handmade crafts.
A Celebration of Creativity and Innovation
“The most exciting thing this year is that we’ll be showing off our brand-new laser,” said Donald Dennis, the library’s Games, Technology and Teen Services Librarian. “The library also has 3D printers to show off, and this event is a great way to let people know about the maker resources we have available, while also giving community members a place to show off what they do.”
Dennis said this year’s vendor lineup includes a mix of returning favorites and new participants, with creations ranging from button bouquets and haiku gifts to hand-turned woodwork, baked goods, 3D-printed art and handmade toys. “We’ve got five or six vendors confirmed already, and we’d love to add more,” he said. “As we go into the holiday season, it’s the perfect time for local crafters to showcase and sell their work.”
How to Participate
Participation is open to anyone who makes, builds or crafts — whether professionally or just for fun.

  • Non-selling exhibitors can reserve a table for free to display their projects, talk to festival-goers about their craft and connect with other makers.
  • Sellers can secure vendor space with a $25 donation to the Friends of the Waccamaw Library.
Vendor registration is available online at https://tinyurl.com/5b4mycym.
Hands-On Demonstrations and Maker Tools
Throughout the weekend, library staff will demonstrate new and traditional crafting technologies, including foam cutting, laser engraving and patch-making for hats. Visitors will also be able to try their hand at engraving keychains, slate coasters and glassware using the library’s new and upgraded laser equipment.
“My hope is to make a gravestone out of foam as a Halloween decoration,” Dennis said with a laugh. “Each department will have something to show off, from adult crafts at the front desk to demos of the latest maker tools. It’s a great excuse to get people in the door and show them what’s possible.”
An Event for Everyone
Dennis said the faire has become a fall tradition for local artists and hobbyists alike.
“If there’s anybody in the county — whether you live here or work here — who wants to participate, we want to give everybody a chance to show off just how cool and entertaining they are, and connect with other cool people who might share their interests,” he said.
The Making and Crafting Faire will be held at the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library, located at 41 St. Pauls Place, Pawleys Island.
