    News for Immediate Release:

Blood drives scheduled ahead of summer season demand
Tidelands Health is partnering with the American Red Cross and The Blood Connection to offer two blood drives to help meet the need for donations ahead of the summer season.
The summer months typically have a higher demand for blood donations as people travel and spend more time outdoors, leading to accidents and medical procedures that require transfusions.
Donors have the option to donate blood at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, 606 Black River Road, on two upcoming dates:
    • Friday, May 30, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., offered by The Blood Connection
    • Friday, June 6, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., offered by the American Red Cross
Blood supplies are essential for patients undergoing certain surgical procedures or cancer treatments, as well as battling chronic illnesses or traumatic injuries. A single blood donation has a shelf life of only 42 days, so donations from community members are continuously needed to keep supplies replenished.
Blood donors must be healthy, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Be sure to bring your driver’s license, donor card or other valid identification. Appointments will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome.
Schedule an appointment at thebloodconnection.org or redcross.org.
