They will have their cabin open and in operation - all kitted out with rope beds and lanterns, cook pots, and the other necessaries of Colonial Life and Militia Life.
This top notch Revolutionary War reenactment group, Britton’s Neck Regiment of Militia, hails from lower Marion county. The group is unique in that each member of the regiment present a period skill.
NOTE: Hopsewee Plantation is open at 10:00 am. If you are at Hopsewee doing a tour, the museum or dining, there is no additional fee to interact. Otherwise, there is a grounds fee. Please stop by the check-in counter located in our River Oaks Cottage Tea Room (the red-roofed building).Images
The militia will present the world of the militia in the American Revolution. Also, a collection of reproduction, officer grade camp furniture will be displayed in one of our slave cabins, as well as demonstrations of 18th Century cooking. On Friday, October 3, we will have a demonstration of soap making! On both days, they will demonstrate 18th Century surveying and joinery (furniture making).
